Day 2 of 7, a study on trusting God with your money.
There's a feeder outside my kitchen window, and most mornings I watch it longer than I mean to while the coffee brews. No bird out there has ever run a retirement projection. Not one of them has a spreadsheet, a savings rate, or the faintest concern about outliving its resources. And every single one of them gets fed.
"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"
Matthew 6:26
I used to hear this verse as an argument against planning altogether, like Jesus was telling me to burn the spreadsheet and wait for grain to fall from the sky. I don't think that's it. He's not against the sowing and reaping; birds don't do that because they can't, not because it's wrong. He's making a smaller point, aimed at the worry underneath the planning, not the planning itself.
The point is the Father who feeds birds that can't plan at all is not going to suddenly stop paying attention to a man who can. My spreadsheet is fine. It's the worry riding along next to it that Jesus is after.
Today's Question
What would change today if you believed the worry was optional but the provision wasn't?
A Short Prayer
Father, thank you for feeding creatures who can't plan a single day ahead. Thank you for paying even closer attention to me. Take the worry; I'll keep the spreadsheet. Amen.
God bless,
Paul
