Day 1 of 7, a study on rest that isn't retirement.
Back when I first started keeping a small notebook by my coffee mug, I told you plainly that if the habit turned into something bigger, I'd say so when it did. Three studies later this season, on money, on purpose, and on aging, I want to close with the theme that's actually been sitting underneath all three of them the whole time: rest.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:28
Jesus doesn't say come to me once you've fully retired, once the accounts are settled and the calendar's empty. He says come as you are, weary and burdened, whatever that burden happens to be right now. I've spent a lot of this year assuming rest was a status I'd arrive at once retirement was properly finished. This verse says it's an invitation, open right now, not a status waiting somewhere down the road.
Today's Question
What burden are you carrying today that you haven't actually brought to him yet?
A Short Prayer
Lord, I'm weary in specific ways today. I'm bringing that to you instead of waiting until I feel like I've earned the rest. Amen.
God bless,
Paul
