Day 6 of 7, a study on purpose after the paycheck.
There's a shape a lot of retirement stories seem to follow without anyone saying so out loud: the real story was the career, and everything after it is the postscript, a quieter chapter tacked on at the end for wrapping things up. I noticed this week how much I'd quietly bought into that shape myself.
"Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
Philippians 1:6
The good work God started in me didn't finish the day my career did, and it isn't scheduled to finish until "the day of Christ Jesus," which is a considerably later deadline than my last day at the office. He's carrying it on, present tense, right through whatever this chapter turns out to be. That's not the language of a postscript. That's the language of a story still actively being written, with real plot left in it.
Today's Question
What would change if you stopped treating this season as the postscript and started treating it as an active chapter?
A Short Prayer
Lord, thank you for a good work you're still carrying on in me. Don't let me write off this chapter as a postscript to the real story. Amen.
God bless,
Paul
