A Body That Doesn't Retire Its Members

Day 4 of 7, a study on purpose after the paycheck.

My old company had an org chart, and eventually my name came off it. That's how companies work; they're built to function with different people cycling through the same roles, which is fine and probably necessary. I noticed myself expecting church to work the same way, like there'd naturally be a point where I got quietly moved off the chart there too.

"But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be."

1 Corinthians 12:18

A body doesn't work like an org chart. You don't get promoted out of being a hand, and you don't get retired out of being a hand either, not while the body's still living. God placed me in this body exactly where he wanted me, and nothing about that placement had a sixty-five-year clock attached to it. The company had an org chart. The church has a body. I keep needing to remember those aren't the same shape.

Today's Question

Where in the body of your church do you suspect you're still placed, even if no one's asked you to serve there lately?

A Short Prayer

Lord, thank you for placing me in your body exactly where you wanted me, with no expiration built into it. Show me where I'm still needed there. Amen.

God bless,
Paul
