The Gift Doesn't Expire

Day 3 of 7, a study on purpose after the paycheck.

Somewhere in my head, without ever deciding it on purpose, I'd filed my usefulness under my job description. Thirty-two years of a specific kind of work had quietly convinced me that whatever I was good for was also what I got paid for, and that the two would naturally end together.

"We have different gifts, according to the grace given us."

Romans 12:6

The grace that gave me whatever I'm actually good at didn't come with an expiration date matched to a retirement letter. It came from God, and it's still mine, sitting there the same as it was the week before I stopped working, just without a job description telling me where to point it anymore. That's a different problem than not having the gift at all. It's a pointing problem, not a having problem.

Today's Question

What gift do you have that your old job only used a portion of?

A Short Prayer

God, thank you for gifts that don't retire when the job does. Help me find where to point what you've already given me. Amen.

God bless,
Paul
