Renewed Like the Eagle

Day 3 of 7, a study on aging without shrinking.

My knees do not renew themselves the way they did at thirty. I've stopped expecting them to, mostly, and made peace with a slower walk up the stairs than I used to have. But I don't think Isaiah was talking about knees.

"But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Isaiah 40:31

There's a strength that runs on a different clock than the body's, tied to hope in the Lord instead of tied to age. My body's strength is on a slow, honest decline, and no amount of hoping is going to argue it back to thirty. But the strength Isaiah's describing here isn't measured by how fast I can take the stairs. It's the strength to keep hoping, keep waiting, keep not growing weary in the parts of me that actually matter for the long run. That strength, apparently, can still be renewed on a Tuesday, knees and all.

Today's Question

Where do you need renewed strength this week that has nothing to do with your body's condition?

A Short Prayer

Lord, my knees are on their own clock, but my hope doesn't have to be. Renew my strength today in whatever way I actually need it. Amen.

God bless,
Paul
