A Crown, Not a Countdown

Day 2 of 7, a study on aging without shrinking.

I catch myself reading my own gray hair like a countdown clock some mornings, one more visible tick toward however many are left. It's not a healthy way to look at a mirror, and it's also not the only way Scripture describes what's happening on my head.

"Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness."

Proverbs 16:31

A crown isn't a countdown. A crown is an achievement, something you wear because of what got you there, not something that's simply running out. Solomon connects the gray hair to a way of living, not a number of years passed. That reframes the whole thing for me. Every gray hair on my head is evidence of years actually walked with God, not just years subtracted from some total.

I'd rather wear it like Solomon describes than read it like a clock.

Today's Question

What would change if you looked at your own aging as a crown you're wearing instead of a number counting down?

A Short Prayer

Lord, let me see the gray as a crown attained in walking with you, not a countdown I'm dreading. Thank you for every year that got me here. Amen.

God bless,
Paul
